Charlie gave insight into a perspective from a Native American point of view – the opposite of what Hollywood and the history books gave. Indians saw all interlopers as subject to the laws of their culture and treated them as such. The Indians displayed in this painting are seeing the fair game in the horses and booty of the wagon train.
