Description

Gun Fighters / Death of a Gambler

Original: 1904, Oil on Canvas

Featured in an article from the popular magazine Leslie’s Weekly in 1904, Russell’s Gun Fighters depicts the dime novel lawlessness of the west.  It echoes earlier compositions of gunslingers by illustrators such as Frederic Remington.  Still, instead of highlighting the tension of men facing off, Russell shows the aftermath of a well-taken shot.
