Description

Cow Range and Hunting Trail By Malcolm S. Mackay
Malcolm Sutherland Mackay was born on September 5, 1881, in Englewood New Jersey, the son of Jennie Elizabeth Wise and Donald Mackay. Although Malcolm’s dad did not attend college, he became a leading New York financier and at one time was president of the New York Stock Exchange. He did not think a college education was necessary for success and encouraged his son to learn by practical experience. By the time he was a teenager, Malcolm was working as a runner for his father’s firm for a salary of $25 a month. He spent his vacations bird hunting in Nebraska and North Dakota and thus began his romance with the West, “filled only with the desire to see the great cattle country, to get into the the cattle business, and to become a rider of the boundless plains.”
