This theme is a well loved and familiar tale told on canvas by Russell more than once. An alternative title is ‘Bronc to Breakfast’, and the details and emotions are as obvious to the viewer as if he were there watching it all take place. Taking the frost off of rough broncs was a necessary morning ritual but breakfast even more so. To cross swords with the camp cook was surely a grievous matter and a duel a working class cow puncher was sure to lose. Charlie puts himself into the picture as a dining observer of the action.
