Breaking Camp
Depending on the buffalo as their staff of life, the Indians followed the wandering herds in a nomadic existence. The Indian women had to break camp each time a new move was made, which was frequent and inevitable. Charles M. Russell spent much time among the Indians and has translated the perpetual routine of the scene accurately and poignantly. This is the first time this painting of the camp-breaking scene has been reproduced.
