2015 Art in Action® ParticipantsJerry McKellar is a bronze sculptor and Russell Skull Society charter member. His awards from C.M. Russell shows include the 2006 CEO Award; 2010, 2009, 2006, 2005, and 1997 People’s Choice Best Sculpture; andthe 1997 Artists’ Choice Award. His sculptures have been purchased for the permanent collections of museums, corporations, and communities. His work is noted for strong composition, power and movement, and ranges in size from miniature to monumental.H. Steven Oiestad was born and raised on a ranch near Big Timber, MT, and spent his childhood years studying and sketching the animals in his environment. He moved to Great Falls in the late 1980s, where his passion for art was once again renewed, thanks to an incredible group of artists who reside in this area. Working from his home and studio in the beautiful Sun River Valley, not far from Great Falls, Oiestad mainly concentrates on the cowboy and landscapes of present-day America.Chris Owen majored in art at Montana State University-Billings and at Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. His works are in the permanent collections at the Pearce Western Art Museum, Corsicana, TX, the National Western in Denver, The Old West Museum in Cheyenne, and in private and corporate collections nationwide.Daniel Parker, a multi-talented artist, was raised in northwest Montana. His career as an award- winning artist has spanned more than thirty years. His primary focus is western and wildlife sculptures. Parker also enjoys painting and building one-of-a-kind furniture pieces, bothof which sell as fast as he can produce them. Parker’s current project is painting the warrior chiefs—Touch the Clouds, Sitting Bull, and Crazy Horse.Chad Poppleton, a resident of Cache Valley, UT, has been interested in art ever since he can remember. His interest began while he was on the farm and ranch with his grandfather, working with the animals and understanding their attitudes and behaviors. Poppleton’s father, also an artist, taught him how to draw and to look at things throughan artist’s eye. His work is represented in the most prestigious galleries and shows across the U.S. and has been profiled in all leading art publications. Poppleton is a proud member of the Russell Skull Society of Artists.Gary Lynn Roberts, being a storyteller, welcomes viewers into his canvas. His love of horses, rodeo and art has helped him develop a style of realism and Impressionism. He is the recipient of several awards from different museums for best of show and peoples’ choice. Roberts is honored to be a member of the C.M. Russell Museum’s “Russell Skull Society of Artists.” He currently resides in Hamilton, MT, with his wife Nancy and their two children, Mary and Anna.W. Steve Seltzer paints many different subjects, ranging from contemporary landscapes to historical scenes, from still lifes to figural works. He has been a professional full-time artist for more than forty years and has work in collections throughout the United States and Canada. Seltzer has had numerous one-man shows, and his paintings have been featured in Southwest Art, Wildlife Art, and Art of the West.Andy Thomas, an inaugural artistof the Russell Skull Society, is a self-taught artist who strives to bring intense motion and a story to each canvas of the iconic and historic West as his ultimate goal. He has been a full-time professional artist since 1991 and works out of his studio in Carthage, MO.
