Lot 174 is being sold by e Couse Foundation (TFC), owner and operator of the Couse-Sharp Historic Site in Taos, New Mexico (Couse-Sharp.org). E. I. Couse and J. H. Sharp were two of six founders of the Taos Society of Artists (TSA) in 1915, and their original studios remain at the site. TCF’s 501(c)(3) mission is a perfect parallel to that of the C.M. Russell Museum—to preserve the legacy of important historic painters of the Southwest, like Russell in the Northwest. All three were working in the early twentieth century to capture, as an art form, the peoples of America’s closing frontier. Couse and Sharp were particularly sympathetic to the plight and culture of American Indians, a sympathy also evidenced by Russell’s beautiful Portrait of an Indian.Al Olson, Chairman, e Couse Foundation
