Discover the art of Gyotaku, a traditional Japanese printing technique that dates back to the 1800s. Originally used by fishermen to record their catch, Gyotaku (meaning “fish rubbing”) involves applying non-toxic sumi ink to a fish and pressing paper or fabric over it to create a detailed, life-like impression.
In this hands-on class, you’ll learn the basics of the process while exploring both the technique and creative possibilities of this unique art form. Each session offers the chance to create your own striking print and gain insight into the history behind the practice.
