R. TOM GILLEON Winter Lodge
oil
36 x 36 inches
$35,000–45,000
Winter Lodge is set in an ambiguous time and place: a tipi suspended on the edge of a winter wasteland with a small sheen of sunlight glinting through the far left. On the horizon,
an immense white void is building and drawing nearer, the shadowy footprints in the foreground are disconnected from the lodge and we cannot tell whether they lead toward home or away from it, suggesting the dislocation and loss of Native Americans in the face
of white settlement. Winter Lodge captures a fragile and fleeting moment in an unbalanced time, leaving us to wonder about the world beyond the frame.
