Brian W. Dippie, Panel Speaker, Consultant
Brian W. Dippie is a professor emeritus at the University of Victoria, British Columbia, where he taught U.S. history from 1970 until his retirement in 2009. A specialist in the history of Western American art, he has focused on the work of George Catlin, Frederic Remington, and especially that of his childhood idol, Charles M. Russell. Dippie, who rst visited the C.M. Russell Museum in 1954, was honored to receive the museum’s C.M. Russell Heritage Award sixty years later, in 2014.

In addition to his biography of Charlie Russell, John Taliaferro has written four other books: Tarzan Forever: e Life of Edgar Rice Burroughs; Great White Fathers: e Story of the Obsessive Quest to Create Mount Rushmore; In a Far Country: e Story of a Mission, a Marriage, a Murder, and the Remarkable Reindeer Rescue of 1898; and All the Great Prizes: e Life of John Hay, from Lincoln to Roosevelt. He is currently going mad on a biography of George Bird Grinnell.
He has also worked at the Church Street Parking Garage, Newsweek, Mergenthaler Linotype Company, Texas Monthly, 3rd Coast Magazine, and the University of Texas Press.
He graduated from Harvard College in 1974. Taliaferro is married to artist Malou Flato. ey divide their time between Montana and Texas.
