is year’s symposium takes its inspiration from the pioneering
e orts of Montana PBS to create C.M. Russell and the American
West, a feature-length lm that tells the sweeping story of Russell’s
life and journey from wrangler to artist, which has never been fully explored in narrative lm or documentary. “C.M. Russell and the American West: A Conversation with the Filmmakers” will be a panel discussion with lmmakers and scholars who will tackle topics of Russell’s life and art that appear in the lm. Accompanied by rough cuts from the lm, this symposium will o er a rich visual context of Russell’s life and the Montana landscape that charged his imagination.
