Friendship. Courage. Respect. Tolerance.
Charlie Russell embodies the generosity of spirit of the West—a friend to wildlife; a friend to Native Americans; a friend to the expansive landscape he worked to preserve. Generations now enjoy Russell’s amazingly relevant legacy because of contributors like you.
Each January, nearly 1,000 fifth-grade students engage with his works and those of his contemporaries, writing essays and drawing vignettes about their experience. In their own words, here is the impact Charlie has made on these children’s lives:
“Charlie Russell inspires me to work with art like he did.”
“I thank Charlie for not letting the West become just an old memory.”
“Charlie Russell changed how I feel.”
Charlie Russell is alive and well in these young peoples’ imaginations. Last year, 35,000 people experienced the west through Russell’s eyes at family programs, workshops, films, lectures, events, after school art classes, outreach programs and more.
